Turning Positive Parenting Into Practice: A Home Visit With Caregivers

Positive parenting does not end when a training session is over. The real change begins when the lessons enter the home.

Following Session One on Positive Parenting, Destiny Helping Hands conducted a home visit to follow up with parents and caregivers and understand how they were putting the knowledge and skills they had learned into practice.

The visit created an opportunity to move from discussion to everyday experience. Caregivers were encouraged to demonstrate how they are creating supportive home environments where children can grow healthy, safe, protected, happy and confident.

The discussions focused on practical ways caregivers can strengthen their relationships with children. These included communicating positively, showing love and care, listening to children, providing proper nutrition and maintaining good hygiene.

Child safety and protection were also an important part of the conversation. Caregivers were encouraged to create homes where children feel secure and supported, while also encouraging education, learning and positive development.

A key message throughout the visit was the importance of positive discipline. Caregivers were encouraged to guide children through patience, understanding and constructive communication rather than violence or harsh punishment.

The home visit was therefore not simply a follow-up activity. It was a learning and reflection opportunity, helping caregivers connect the lessons from the Positive Parenting session with their daily interactions with children.

By continuing to engage caregivers in their homes, Destiny Helping Hands is reinforcing the importance of safe, supportive and nurturing family environments where children can grow, learn and thrive.
